Students practice all important "sight words" while becoming familiar with using a keyboard.
A great companion app to "i Can Spell with Phonics" – teaching the same 150 "sight words" (commonly used words) with regular spelling.
First choose a word list for the lesson.
There are 15 word lists, each with 10 sight words to learn.
ACTIVITY ONE – Typing Introduction
A spelling word appears, big and bold on the screen, with a professionally voiced contextual sentence and vibrant photograph. The word is dimmed, now type the word.
At first the correct keys are highlighted, providing an easy introduction to the QWERTY keyboard.
ACTIVITY TWO – Match-Up
Students match-up beginning sounds, digraphs or rimes to the correct pictures. (Those who have used our "Phonic Flashcards" app will be familiar with many of the pictures.)
ACTIVITY THREE – Look-Say-Cover-Type
The word is displayed, then disappears. Now type in the word.
Incorrect letters are simply disregarded.
Need help? Tap the screen to view the word again, and hear it sounded-out!
Choose one of four games to play once you've completed the lesson.
There are two word games, "Match the Pairs" and "Word Search", and also two arcade games, "Fish Food" and "Dinosaur Run".
"i Can Type - Sight Words" provides an easy introduction to typing sight words.
Spelling and using a keyboard are two important skills. Trying to learn both at the same time can be frustrating, especially if your child has finds spelling difficult.
If your child first needs to learn to read and "sound-out" the words, please use our "i Can Spell with Phonics" app.
VOICE OPTIONS: American, British and Australian English
